I’m Paula, and I started Sweet Revenge over 7 years ago dissatisfied with corporate life, and wanting to make my own way in the world. Having a love for food and flavour it was an easy decision to start a cakery! I believe in using the best locally sourced sustainable ingredients, handling them with care and love so you get a fresh product that’s delicious to the last bite.
After a few years of using my family and friends as guinea pigs while I perfected my recipes, I was ready to start. Luckily, at the same time the Food Act was changed and home based businesses were a possibility. I was one of a few small home based businesses that acted as test cases for MPI, testing the new Food Act rules and their new Food Control Plans. After getting registered I haven’t looked back.
Sweet Revenge has done many things on its road to success; Custom Cakes, Weddings, Grazing Tables & Platters, Catering, Cakes and all things baked and has ended up with a stall at Riverside Market, in the Christchurch CBD. We sell slices of cakes, cream puffs, truffles, confectionery and a gluten free range growing in popularity. One thing is for sure, our treats are generous, flavoursome and memorable!
We may have started out as just one person, but now there is a small team dedicated to providing and serving you delicious treats, either at Riverside Market or from our registered residential kitchen in Redwood.
For the time being Riverside Market is closed as we as a nation get a handle on the spread of covid-19, but when it is safe to reopen, we will be there with all the old favourite treats and a few new ones! While we are in Level 3 we will offer a limited delivery service and contactless collection, so you don’t have to miss out on your Sweet Revenge fix!
Behind the scenes at Sweet Revenge
We are a small team of four at Sweet Revenge, and in these unusual times are using our staff to the best of their abilities using some amazing skills they have, but weren’t necessarily hired for and ensuring they can keep to their bubbles as much as is possible and with your help stay employed! And of course, we want to continue doing what we do - delivering you your very important dose of YUMMM!
Our beloved stall at Riverside Market in Christchurch is temporarily closed but we still have plenty of resources, including our kitchen bakery running as per usual or updated to make sure we can continue operating, and keeping your sugar levels up! As well as some newly introduced savoury treats to keep you going.
We are super excited that we can once again get food to the people!
Amellia & Paula will be in the kitchen working to a new Level Three addition to the Food Hygiene Plan ensuring safe distance and strict sanitising measures and taking all due health checks and precautions. Through all that we will still as always have some fun creating your goodies so you can be sure to taste the difference. We will also be your delivery angels; wearing appropriate PPE, and will travel with sanitizer!
Debbie who will have served some of you at Riverside Market has whipped our website into shape so that we can offer a contactless order and payment system. She will also be chatting to you via the website chat if you have questions about your orders or would like to make time with Paula to talk custom cakes or catering.
Ruchika who will have also served some of you all at Riverside Market will be running our social media and creating some fun promotions for you all to take part in, and she will largely be the person replying to your Facebook & Insta questions or comments.
COVID19 PROCEDURES AT SWEET REVENGE
Alert Level 3 means that we can trade again! Yay! While our physical store remains closed - we can deliver your dose of YUMMM to your door! We will be operating a contactless process during these times. This means we will still be busy baking your treats from the normal location, but instead of it travelling to our retail location - we will deliver it to your door, or you can come pick up from our Redwood bakery location once you have submitted your order online.
The safety of our customers and staff is important to us and we are happy to report that all of our staff have been in their own bubbles since lockdown and show no sign of any illness.
We are working to a Covid-19 Safety Plan developed from guidelines issued from Worksafe NZ; this plan has been integrated into our existing Food Safety & Hygiene Plan.
We’ve always operated with food safety in mind, but in light of the situation we are now in here are some new measures we have put in place:
Inwoods goods are ordered and processed while no cooking is taking place, all goods are sanitised appropriately.
Staff, having to leave their bubble, are asked a simple health checklist to ensure they are fit for work and are given all appropriate PPE.
Our website has been updated to offer a shop site to provide you with a contactless way of ordering and paying for goods.
We will offer delivery of our goodies Weds, Thurs, Fri & Sat each week for many areas at a nominal fee which helps cover wages. When we deliver we will drop the goodies off at your doorstep, or where you indicate is best and will then text, or message you that the goodies have been delivered.
We will offer a contactless collection by appointment from our registered residential kitchen, with clearly demarked lines of where to stand and ensuring social distancing during collection.
We will keep information on our inwoods goods, collections and deliveries to help with contact tracing should it be needed.
The two staff who are working in the kitchen will be adhering to appropriate social distancing and working at their own work stations
